The cafe & bakery FIVE ELEPHANT. in Mitte (literally translated as “the middle” and in fact one of the most central areas of Berlin) was my second Five Elephant. visit. Another cafe of this brand in Berlin is located in Kreuzberg. I also was surprised to learn that Five Elephant even has its roastery there, direct around the corner from this subsidiary. More than that, Five Elephant.’s primary business is coffee and not its marvelous cheesecakes as I thought before. The coffee drinks are, as expected, delicious and flavorous! You can buy roasted coffee beans there as well. The cheesecakes are indeed very yummy, light and savory, though probably a bit too airy to my taste (though definitely less calories and less remorse for those who count)… But the slightly salty and very crispy base makes up for that! In Mitte, the cheesecakes are served for the same price (4,5 Euro) as in Kreuzberg but as a rather small round cake and not by the slice. The shop itself is very narrow, smaller and less cozy than its rival, but this is again to my taste. Many people find this subsidiary is stylish, trendy and upstream! Probably, the best advice would be to visit both branches and decide which Five Elephant. you like the most.
